Import a CSV of URLs

You can bring a list of links into Recall from a .csv file. Raindrop and Instapaper exports work, and so does any CSV that has a column of URLs. Each import adds up to 1,000 links.

How to import a CSV

1. Open Recall. A CSV on your computer is easiest to upload from desktop, and you can also choose the file from the mobile app.
2. Click Add in the top-right corner of the app to open Add Content.
3. Select Bulk import at the bottom of the window.
4. Choose CSV of URLs.
5. Upload one .csv file.
6. Click Import.

Recall imports up to 1,000 new links from the file. If the file has more, upload it again. Links already in your knowledge base are skipped, and the next batch is imported.

What the file should look like

Recall looks for these column titles. They are not case-sensitive, so Instapaper’s URL, Title, and Tags work too.

• url. The link to save. Also accepted: link, source, source_url, href.
• title. The name of the card. Also accepted: name. If this column is missing, Recall names the card from the page.
• tags. Tags for the card. Also accepted: tag. Separate several tags with a comma, semicolon, or vertical bar.

A file can be only a list of URLs, with or without a header. If there is no url column, Recall uses the column where most of the cells are links.

Other columns, such as notes, folders, or dates, are left out. Excel workbooks (.xls and .xlsx) are not accepted. Export the sheet as CSV first.

Private Instapaper links, rows that are not URLs, and duplicate links in the same file are skipped.

After importing

Each link becomes a card in your knowledge base.

• Find the batch. Every card in the import is tagged imports/csv-YYYY-MM-DD-001, so you can open the whole batch from that tag. Tags from the file are added as well.
• Chat with the import. Ask across the batch by @-mentioning that tag.
• Summaries and connections. These are not created during the import. Generate them afterward, one card at a time, or up to 100 cards at once on Max.
