Why use Recall to track movies

A movie recommendation, a film you want to watch, or a director you want to explore is easy to note and easy to lose. A scattered watchlist in your phone notes never tells you what connects your favorites. Recall keeps your watchlist, your “watched” log, and your reviews in one searchable place, then surfaces the patterns between them.

The best part is that your library is always building up. Every film you save adds to the picture of what you actually like, so when you ask Recall for something to watch, the recommendation is grounded in your own taste instead of a generic list from the internet. The more you save, the better the suggestions get, and because everything lives in one organized place, the right pick is always a search or a question away.

What you’ll build

  • A watchlist of films you want to see and a log of what you’ve already watched
  • A quick way to save movies from Wikipedia and other reference pages
  • Tags that organize your library by status, genre, era, or theme
  • A movie diary of summaries, ratings, and personal reviews
  • Recommendations for what to watch next, drawn from the films you’ve already saved
  • Connections that reveal the directors, actors, and themes you gravitate toward

A workflow to build a movie library

Perfect for building watchlists, tracking what you’ve seen, or creating themed collections for movie nights.

Part 1Add your favorite movies
  • Click “Add content” in the top right corner and select “Wiki”
  • Type a movie name into the search bar (e.g., “Burn After Reading”)
  • You may see multiple results: scroll to find the right one and select it
  • Hit save in the top right corner of the card.

Tip: Install the Recall mobile app (available on iOS and Android) so you can quickly add movie recommendations or share them with friends while you’re out and about.

Part 2Review and summarize
  • The “Reader” tab displays the full Wikipedia page for the movie
  • To generate a custom summary: Navigate to the “Chat” tab, select your preferred summary type, and save it to your “Notebook” for easy reference
Part 3Tag your movies

A “Movies” tag should be automatically added to your card. Customize your tags to organize your library:

  • Status tags: "Movies/To Watch" or "Movies/Watched"
  • Genre tags: "Movies/Thrillers", "Movies/Comedy", "Movies/Drama"
  • Era tags: "Movies/1990s", "Movies/2000s"
Part 4Chat for recommendations

Once you’ve saved a few films with your ratings and notes, open global chat in the left panel by clicking the AI icon, @ mention your movies tag, and ask for a pick grounded in your own taste instead of a generic list from the internet.

Some prompts to try:

  • “What’s a good thriller for a rainy night from my watchlist?”
  • “I have two hours and want something light. What should I watch?”
  • “What have I saved that my partner would like?”
  • “Recommend a film similar to the Coen Brothers movies I’ve saved.”
  • “Which of my unwatched films best match the documentaries I rated highly?”

Because the answer comes from the films you’ve actually curated, with your ratings and notes, you get picks that fit your taste rather than whatever is trending.

Part 5Keep a movie diary

After watching, open the “Notebook” and jot down your rating, a few thoughts, and who you’d recommend it to. Over time this becomes a movie diary you can search, revisit, and share, instead of a list of titles with no context.

Part 6Explore connections

Now for the fun part! Click the “Connections” tab to see all the keywords and relationships Recall has extracted. Discover directors you didn’t know you favored, actors who appear across your collection, or thematic connections between your movies. You might realize you’ve saved five Coen Brothers films without even noticing.

For the serious movie buff
  • Add personal reviews: After watching a movie, take notes in the “Notebook” on your thoughts, rating, and who you’d recommend it to.
  • Share with friends: Share Recall cards directly with friends by clicking the share icon in the top right corner to copy the link. They won’t need to sign up to view it; they’ll get the movie details AND your personal review!
  • Quiz yourself: Want to test your movie knowledge? Click the “Quiz” button to generate questions and see how well you remember the details.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an app to track the movies I've watched?

Yes. Recall works as a movie tracker: you save each film as a card, tag it “Watched”, and add a short note with your rating and thoughts. Over time this becomes a searchable log of everything you’ve seen, with the date, your review, and the connections to other films, instead of a list of titles you can’t remember the details of.

How do I keep track of movies I want to watch?

In Recall you build a watchlist by saving a film the moment you hear about it, then tagging it “Movies/To Watch”. You can add movies from Wikipedia with Wiki Search in the app, or save a recommendation on your phone the second a friend mentions it. When you want something to watch, filter by that tag to see your whole list in one place.

Can I keep a movie diary in Recall?

Yes. After watching a film, open its Notebook and write your rating, a few thoughts, and who you’d recommend it to. Because each entry is attached to the movie’s card and stays searchable, your diary becomes something you can revisit and share, not just a list of star ratings.

How do I add a movie to Recall?

The fastest way is Wiki Search: click “Add content”, select “Wiki”, search the film’s name, and save the Wikipedia page as a card. You can also paste a link or use the Recall mobile app to capture a recommendation while you’re out. Recall summarizes the page and adds a “Movies” tag automatically so it’s organized from the start.

Can Recall recommend a movie from my own watchlist?

Yes. Once you’ve saved films with your ratings and notes, open global chat in the left panel by clicking the AI icon and ask things like “What’s a good thriller for a rainy night?” or “What have I saved that my partner would like?” Because the answer is grounded in what you’ve actually curated, you get picks from your own taste instead of a generic list from the internet.

How is Recall better than a notes app or spreadsheet for tracking films?

A notes app or spreadsheet stores titles, but it can’t show you what connects your favorites or answer questions about your taste. Recall extracts the directors, actors, and themes across everything you save and maps them in a Connections view, so you might discover you’ve saved five Coen Brothers films without noticing. You can also chat with your library, quiz yourself, and share a film card (with your review) without the other person needing an account.
