Getting Started2. Add Content

Start building your knowledge base

Once you create a Recall account, you’re ready to start adding content into Recall and building your network of knowledge. Adding content automatically creates a Recall Card.

A Recall Card contains a read-only version of the original content, a notebook to take your own notes, and unlocks powerful AI features such as:

  • Creating summaries
  • Chatting with your content
  • Visualizing content in a graph
  • Reviewing content on a spaced repetition schedule

Add content into Recall

Skip to this section in our tutorial for a walkthrough of how to add content.

There are three main ways to add content into Recall.

  1. The best way: Install the Recall AI extension, pin it, and click it.
  2. In-app: Add content by clicking Add in the app.
  3. On mobile: Share content directly with the Recall app.
Supported content

YouTube videos, X posts, Reddit posts, PDFs, EPUBs, images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, HEIF), Google Docs and Google Slides, blogs, articles, websites, and more. We are actively working on supporting more content. Have a request for something specific? Request it!

1. Through the AI extension

  1. Install the AI extension: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari
  2. Pin it to your toolbar (so it’s easily accessible)
  3. Browse to the content you would like to engage with, and click the extension.
  4. Boom! You can now:
    • Save the full content
    • Summarize and chat with your content
    • Save it to the Recall Notebook where you can edit your summaries and take your own notes.

For the full walkthrough of summaries, chat, personas, and augmented browsing, see AI Extension for Productivity and Focus.

Keyboard shortcuts

The browser extension comes with a few keyboard shortcuts to keep you in your flow:

ShortcutAction
Alt + ROpen or close the Recall extension on the current tab
Alt + SSave the current page to your knowledge base
EscClose the extension panel
Customize your shortcuts

You can change these shortcuts in your browser:

  • Chrome / Edge: open chrome://extensions/shortcuts (or edge://extensions/shortcuts) and find Recall in the list.
  • Firefox: open about:addons, click the gear icon, and choose Manage Extension Shortcuts.

2. In-app: click Add

This can be done on the web or mobile apps. In the top right-hand corner of the app, you’ll see a button group with two options:

  • Pen icon button (✎): Click this to create a new note. Learn more about note-taking in Recall
  • “Add” button: Click this to open the Add Content window where you can:
    • Paste one URL, or up to 10 URLs at once on Plus and Max, separated by commas, semicolons, or new lines
    • Search Wikipedia: this is a great way to add books, movies, people, etc.
    • Upload a PDF, EPUB, image (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, or HEIF), TXT, or Markdown file. On Plus and Max, you can upload up to 10 files at once from one category: images, PDFs, EPUBs, or text and Markdown files. Multiple images are combined into one card unless you choose to create a separate card for each image
    • On Plus and Max, import bookmarks, Markdown files (Obsidian and Notion exports are also supported), Pocket saves, or a CSV of URLs (up to 1,000 links at a time from Raindrop, Instapaper, or any CSV with a column of URLs)
    • Create a new note from scratch

3. Sharing content with Recall on mobile
